So, here we go....

I've always wanted to have my own blog. In fact, if we're going to be honest with one another, this isn't the first blog I've started; I started one a couple of years ago, with the intention of chronicling my experience having my tonsils removed as an adult (riveting eh? No wonder that didn't take off..). I've always enjoyed writing, and since I have a little bit of spare time while my kiddo naps, I figured why not? So, welcome to The Mommy, The Baker, The Homemaker! Clever eh? Just in case you aren't well versed in nursery rhymes, the name of my blog is a play on words in a relatively popular nursery rhyme titled "Rub a Dub Dub." My intention with this blog is to share recipes and pictures, and stories from my life. And, if that fails, well, at least I'll have a good place to keep said recipes, pictures and stories for myself.

I guess I should also take this opportunity to introduce myself! My name is Emily, and I'm a twenty-something wife, mother, and Master's student. My husband and I have been together since we were 15, and have been married for four wonderful years. In 2009, our family grew when we got Otis, our lovable, crazy, full of energy mini golden doodle (side note about the "mini" part.. we purchased Otis with the assumption that he was going to be 25-35 pounds. As he stands today, he's 53 pounds, so really, not mini by any stretch of the imagination). In late 2009, we discovered that we were expecting our first child. Miss Magoo (or MM) arrived in August 2010, and has had us wrapped around her sweet, chubby fingers ever since. She is the sweetest, happiest little lady that anyone could imagine, and also the world's crappiest sleeper. Yes, at almost 13 months old, MM has never, ever slept through the night (as in I put her to bed and don't hear from her again until a remotely reasonable hour in the morning, not this 5 hours of continuous sleep bullshit doctors call sleeping through the night, cause guess what? When my kid goes to bed at 7 and then wakes up at 12, 3:30, and then 5:45 for the day, saying that she "technically" slept through the night isn't going to get you any points in my book). On an amazing night, I'm up once with her, most nights it's twice, and lets not even discuss the bad nights. Oh well, sleep deprivation was part of the job description! I frequently comfort myself with the thought that someday MM will be a teenager and I'll be pleading with her to get out of bed. I suspect MM's craptacular sleep will be the subject of many blog posts.

My husband landed a job in mid 2010 working for his dream company, and we decided at that point that I would stay home with our soon to be born baby girl. In order for us to be able to afford to do that, we made the decision to move from our smallish town in the GTA (population 50,000), to the middle of nowhere, in the heart of Mennonite country, population 5000. Yeah. It's been a bit of an adjustment, but we love our house and our new town is perfect for families. MM's school will be just down the road, and everyone has a dog. Best of all, it has reduced husband's commute big time, so we get way more family time.

I'm also a part-time Master's student; I'm working towards my M.Ed in Developmental Pyschology and Education, with a specialization in Adaptive Instruction. I've been off of school for the past year on maternity leave and truth be told, I'm really excited to be getting back into it. I'm also petrified of trying to juggle a one year old, a household and school. But, somehow it will all work out right? If the laundry has to wait another day, well, the laundry has to wait (I'm certainly not complaining about that!).

In whatever free time I have after that, I love to cook and bake. I've so enjoyed reading the many food blogs I have saved in my favourites and I'm excited to share my culinary adventures! So, away we go!
